Do not go to the Black Hills and see Mount Rushmore without also seeing the Crazy Horse Memorial. Situated between Hill City and Custer this is must see location. You will see history in the making. A whole mountain is in the process of being carved out into a memorial carving of Crazy Horse.

This view shows the mountain way off in the background with a statue showing what the mountain will eventually look like in the foreground. The eyes of crazy horse on the actual mountain are about 6 feet tall.

The scale of the endeavour (which is all privately financed) both in terms of the time spent so far, the time commitment for the future and the sheer size of the monument really does have to be seen to be believed.

There are excellent facilities at the visitor centre to explain the history of the monument and the history of the Sioux and of course their most famous of Chiefs Crazy Horse.
